LA CTF will have two divisions, UCLA and Open. No matter your skill level, there will be challenges right for you!

Samy Kamkar
Co-Founder, Openpath Security Inc.
Samy Kamkar, cofounder of Openpath Security, is a security researcher and author of the MySpace worm, the fastest spreading virus of all time. His open source research highlights the insecurities and privacy implications in everyday technologies from the Evercookie which produces virtually immutable respawning cookies, to SkyJack, a drone that wirelessly hijacks and autonomously controls other drones. Other projects include GlitchSink to non-invasively glitch secure microcontrollers for firmware and secret extraction, a 3D printed Arduino-based combination lock cracker, RollJam to wirelessly unlock and start cars (without their keys), OpenSesame turning a child's toy into a garage hacking device, and producing edible iridescent chocolate. His work has been cited by the NSA, triggered hearings on Capitol Hill, and has been the basis for security advancements across devices from the one in your pocket to the many surveilling you from the sky.
Prizes
LA CTF will have prizes for both the UCLA and open sections! While there will be two sections for prizes, all of the challenges will be the same for both sections. Prizes will be given in the form of US Amazon gift cards or by arrangement, and can only be given to teams with players based in the US
UCLA Section
The UCLA Section will be composed of teams that must consist of a maximum of four current UCLA undergraduate students in order to be eligible for prizes.

UCLA division prizes will be distributed directly to individual team members. Amounts listed are per team. No more than one TryHackMe voucher may go to any individual in a UCLA Division team.
Open Section
The Open Section will be composed of teams with no size limit and can be from anywhere to be eligible for prizes. All skill levels and experiences are welcomed!
- 1st place: $500 +

1× 1 month TryHackMe Premium voucher - 4th & 5th place: $100
Open division prizes will be distributed to the email linked to the given winning teams. Amounts listed are per team.
Prizes are subject to change and may be made conditional on proof of challenge completion (writeups).
Writeup Prizes:
- A pool of $400 worth of prize money will be given out via writeup prizes, of which $200 is reserved for UCLA students.
- Writeup prizes are made out to the individual or group that made and submitted a winning writeup.
- Writeup judgement will be done by the LA CTF Organizers collectively. Decisions made by the organizers are final.
- The writeup submission form will be active for 1 week after the CTF is over, and will be posted in our discord.
